Marcus Mosiah Garvey Jr. ONH, was many things: a charismatic and eccentric leader, the self-declared Provisional President of Africa, and the founder and first President-General of the Universal Negro Improvement Association, the largest mass organization in Afro-American history. Ideologically a black nationalist and Pan-Africanist, his ideas came to be known as Garveyism and sparked a mass movement in black pride, black identity, and black solidarity.
